GRANGIER: INSTITUTIONAL PARTNER OF LA MACHE SCHOOL

The La Mache school, in Lyon's 8th arrondissement, trains students for a range of careers in construction, industry and new technologies, as well as a number of specific courses. Electrical engineering is one of its courses.

As part of their training as panel builders and electricians, students use industrial equipment and machines supplied by Grangier SAS.

PRESENTATION OF LA MACHE SCHOOL

The La Mache vocational and technological high school celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020. Every year, around 1,000 students are trained here. The school's main subjects are metal structures, wood fittings, mechanical production engineering and electrical engineering. The school also offers STI2D courses.

135 students are enrolled in the PROELEC secondes, premières and terminales. The success rate for the MELEC vocational baccalaureate is around 95%.

One of the school's particular attractions is that it works for real customers. During their course, students create equipment that will be used by professionals. Grangier is one of its customers.

The teaching is comprehensive. Young people learn to use all types of equipment and machines to carry out all the operations involved in the work of panel builders, electricians and cable workers. For example, they make around 300 enclosures of various sizes every year.

MR GRENIER, HEAD OF THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING WORKSHOP

Mr Grenier has been a teacher at La Mache since 1999. He has been head of the electrical engineering workshop since 2013. In the application workshop, with the help of 4 colleagues, he supervises and organises the production of the 135 students in his course. Theoretical teaching is provided by teachers from the French national education system (around 10 teachers).

THE LA MACHE / GRANGIER SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP

The partnership between La Mache school and Grangier is a two-way street. Grangier is both a supplier to the school and a customer. The relationship dates back to before Mr Grenier joined the workshop. When he took charge in 2013, the workshop was already equipped with several Grangier machines.

The school has a virtually complete range of Grangier machines:

Grangier also supplies standard cookie cutters (round, square, rectangular in various sizes). The school has also asked Grangier to manufacture specific punches. Grangier regularly proposes and makes improvements to its machines and looks after their maintenance.

Grangier is also a customer of the Metal Structure workshop. Every year, the students produce mechanical parts for the company. For example, they make mechanically welded supports or machined parts for Grangier's CT2 punching machine or Coup'Din GH3. These supports are manufactured in series of around ten parts.

THE BENEFITS OF THIS EQUIPMENT FOR THE SCHOOL AND ITS STUDENTS

From the teacher's point of view, the advantages of Grangier machines are their reliability and robustness. It is important to note that they are used by many students who, when they start their training, discover this type of professional machine.

What's more, they very rarely break down. These professional tools enable the school's production to be much more productive. With manual tools, production times would be considerably longer (up to 10 times longer for certain operations).

From the students' point of view, the Grangier shears and punching machines are fairly easy to learn to use, as long as they know the safety rules. It's easy to understand how they work. However, their use is almost always supervised by a teacher (cutting tools).

What's more, these are machines that they will use in their future professional activities. Thanks to their training, they will already know how to handle them, which can be an interesting point for employers.

Generally speaking, the volume of punching carried out is much higher than if it had to be done manually. Without Grangier's industrial machines, it would be impossible to manufacture the 300 or so boxes produced each year at the La Mache school.
